Anveshi Research Centre For Women’s Studies was founded in 1985 in order to provide a space where feminist activities and scholars from different institutions could interact. It was envisaged as a centre where researchers from different disciplines and backgrounds could find intellectual stimulation and material resources essential for women’s studies. Towards this end, Anveshi has willingly invested both time and resources to create a library and atmosphere conducive to collective work. And in fact, it has succeeded in refiguring the very notion of research. Anveshi’s library holdings consists of books in English & Telugu and journals on the broad scope of women’s studies, theory, culture, history and politics. Over the years, Anveshi has developed a system of documentation in social sciences, women’s health, women’s studies, feminist theory and other gender related areas. Contemporary issues are also documented through newspaper clippings, newsletters, reports etc. We have rare collection of books and articles written by Indian women over the last 150 years or so. The archival material at Anveshi also consists of important 19th century women’s journals in telugu and a collection of video films and photographs that document women’s history. We have several collections of documents and reports from government and NGO’s on wide variety of issues relating to women/women’s studies and women’s movement that are usually not available in mainstream libraries. Anveshi library users are teachers, students, writers, advocates, journalists, research scholars, activists, NGO personnel and government officials from Hyderabad and neighbouring districts.
